July has absolutely flown past and I'm not sure whether that's because it saw the official start of my summer holidays or because Coronavirus is still lurking and life still doesn't feel normal yet in any shape or form...
I managed to read a good pile of books in July, many of which were from my July TBR pile which you can read more about here. In fact, I managed to read all my TBR pile except one, and still managed to fit a few others in too!
This was one book I mentioned in my July TBR post and I'm glad that I finally got it finished. I absolutely loved it and raced through it at break-neck speed. I spent most of my time reading through tears and by the final few chapters was completely inconsolable. It's such a cleverly written exploration of grief and illness and it was even better than I expected - I just wish I'd read it sooner.
Kidnap on the California Comet comes out on September 3rd and I am so excited to pick up a physical copy in a bookshop to add to my Adventures on Trains collection. I didn't think it was possible to beat The Highland Falcon Thief but this was yet another action-packed adventure and I still didn't manage to get the culprit right! I'll be writing a full review this month.
Orphans of the Tide was another one that had been sat waiting to be read for a while and I was glad I finally managed to fit in this month. Like everyone on Twitter had said it's a brilliant book full of adventure and danger and lots of unexpected twists and turns. You can read my full review here.
Anatomicum was my non-fiction read of the month and I'm still dipping in and out of it even now. I can't praise this brilliant illustrated anatomy book enough. It's perfect for teaching children about how the body works but it also taught me quite a bit too! Read my full review here.
This was my YA novel of the month and my goodness was it a good'un. Absolutely filled with spine-tingling moments, brutal deaths, unexpected twists and 10 hateful individuals. A perfect YA thriller that's made me a little bit scared of mirrors...Read the full review here.
It's rare that I read a proper 'written for adults' book nowadays, but my mum gave me a great big pile a few weeks ago and I instantly picked this one up after hearing such great things on the internet! It's the diaries of a junior doctor and completely eye-opening and hilarious at the same time. I learnt so much about the way hospitals work from reading this and I thought it was a great reflection of just how hard our NHS staff work.
So that was July! 6 books read in total, 3 of which were actually from my July TBR pile which is a great achievement in itself! I'm hoping to at least match this in August and I've got a few cracking looking books lined up that I can't wait to share!
What did you read this month?
